BELISA will be represented by its longterm partner aoty® at the upcoming EU-funded Horizon 2020 program. BELISA is taking full advantage of this unique opportunity to shape energy consumption on the African continent. The focus of the program is to move the transport and urban sectors towards low-carbon pathways. Moving towards sustainable mobility will also help address urban congestion, improve access to jobs and public services, and reduce local air pollution. Projects in and around Johannesburg, South Africa are eligible for EU funding.
The program aims to tackle some of the biggest issues of the 21st century, specifically climate change, energy security and local air pollution. European, Asian (especially China and India), CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) and African research partners, government agencies, members of the private sector and civil society are participating in this urban electrification. The overarching goal of these efforts is to reduce air pollution and CO2 emissions.
